Sound Asleep Pillow Review

Well, those kind people at IWantOneOfThose.com were nice enough to send us a free sound asleep pillow to review.

The sound asleep pillow arrives nicely packaged in a cardboard box, and upon first opening it appears to be exactly the same as a normal pillow. The only clue to its cleverness is the white cord leading from one of the corners.

Just take your iPod or MP3 player (or iPhone in my case) and plug it in. Herein lies a slight problem in the that the jack plug supplied with the sound asleep pillow doesn't fit the socket on the iPhone. This isn't a problem with the pillow, more Apple's design. A quick modification of the jack with a Stanley knife though and we are good to go!

Once the iPhone was plugged in, all you need to do is, ermm, put your head on the pillow. Sound quality is great, as far as listening to music through a pillow can be. As far as I could tell the reproduction was in mono, but this is hardly a problem - the sound pillow is not meant to be an audiophiles wet dream!

If you have the volume up loud then others in the room (in most cases only one other person!) can hear the music, but we didn't find it to be intrusive for the other half.

One of my favourite uses is not for music, but to listen to audio books (usually a Terry Pratchett title) and for this it is ideal.

So, all in all a great gadget, and one which genuinely gets used almost daily. Well worth it.

We certainly liked the Sound Asleep Pillow - it's now in regular use. No more being banished to the spare room when I want to listen to music while nodding off!
